David C. Burkey, M.D., F.A.C.C.


A native of Ohio, Dr. Burkey graduated from Hiram College, Bowling Green State University and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Dr. Burkey trained in internal medicine and cardiology at Maine Medical Center. He was a fellow in cardiovascular disease at Maine Medical Center and a fellow in interventional cardiology at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Burkey has received the Physicians Award of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and the Lilly Cardiac Care Cardiology Fellows Award. Dr. Burkey subspecializes in cardiac catheterization, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology.

David W. Butzel, M.D.

Born in New York City, Dr. Butzel graduated from Colgate University. At the University of Rochester School of Medicine, he received his M.D. and continued there to complete his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics. He received general and interventional cardiology training at Rush Medical University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Butzel subspecializes in interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular interventions, noninvasive peripheral vascular evaluation, and nuclear cardiology. He has particular interest in carotid stenting, renal artery stenting, lower extremity revascularization, and percutaneous repair of congenital cardiac defects.

Charles M. Carpenter, M.D., F.A.C.C.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Carpenter is a graduate of Princeton University and received his M.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Carpenter trained in internal medicine and in cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he completed research and clinical fellowships in the Division of Cardiology and Cardiac Arrhythmia Service. Dr. Carpenter subspecializes in cardiac electrophysiology, catheter ablation and pacemakers.

Mylan C. Cohen, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.C.

A native of Bangor, Maine and raised in Presque Isle, Dr. Cohen graduated from the University of Maine at Orono. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and his master's degree in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Cohen trained in internal medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, where he also completed clinical and research fellowship training in cardiology. He later served on the staff of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he was Chief of the Nuclear Cardiology Section. Dr. Cohen subspecializes in clinical cardiology and cardiovascular imaging, including echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. He is currently the Director of Noninvasive Cardiology at Maine Medical Center and is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He has special interests in diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, valvular heart disease, and preoperative cardiac risk assessment. Dr. Cohen also participates in research, primarily in patient outcomes, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular imaging.

Joel E. Cutler, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Cutler is a native of Bangor, Maine. He graduated from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Dr. Cutler trained in internal medicine at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center and served a fellowship in cardiology at Brown University Affiliated Hospitals. A fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Oregon Health Sciences University followed, after which he became an assistant professor of medicine and electrophysiologist at the University of Oregon. He was the recipient of a National Research Service Award and has received a number of research grants for clinical cardiac investigations. Dr. Cutler is director of cardiac electrophysiology at Maine Medical Center and a clinical associate professor at the University of Vermont. Dr. Cutler subspecializes in cardiac electrophysiology, catheter ablation, pacemakers and implantable defibrillators.

Marco N. Diaz, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Diaz is a native of Massachusetts. He graduated from Boston College and received his M.D. degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Diaz trained in internal medicine at the Boston University Medical Center, where he also completed a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine. Dr. Diaz is currently a clinical instructor at the University of Vermont. He has participated in research primarily in the areas of lipid lowering and acute coronary symptoms. Dr. Diaz subspecializes in diagnostic catheterization, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.

Mary C. Fahrenbach, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Fahrenbach is a native of Tomkins Cove, New York. She graduated from Princeton University and received her M.D. degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Fahrenbach trained in internal medicine at the New England Medical Center. She completed fellowship training in preventive cardiology at The Miriam Hospital (Providence, Rhode Island), in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and in interventional cardiology at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Fahrenbach was most recently a clinical instructor in medicine at Brown University. Dr. Fahrenbach subspecializes in interventional cardiology and cardiac catheterization.

Jennifer L. Hillstrom, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Hillstrom, a native of Minnesota, is a graduate of St. Olaf College and received her M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Hillstrom served as resident and chief resident in internal medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. She completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Minnesota. She is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Hillstrom subspecializes in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, valvular heart disease, and cardiovascular disease in women.

Frederick K. Poulin, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Poulin was born in Boston and graduated from Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He trained in internal medicine and cardiology at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Poulin trained as a fellow in cardiac pacemaker therapy and cardiac catheterization at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and was a clinical and research fellow in medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is the director of the catheterization laboratory at Mercy Hospital in Portland, and formerly served as the hospital's director of cardiology. Dr. Poulin subspecializes in cardiac pacemaker therapy and cardiac catheterization.

James B. Powers, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Powers is a native of New Hampshire. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and received his M.D. degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1991. He trained in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine-affiliated hospitals in Houston, Texas. Dr. Powers completed fellowship training in cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. His research interests include acute coronary syndrome (Primary Investigator for Gusto II) and the role of platelet inhibitors in primary and secondary prevention of coronary artery disease. Dr. Powers subspecializes in diagnostic catheterizations, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.

Enrique J. Rivas, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Rivas was born in Peru. He graduated and received the Honor Medal for scholastic achievements from Universidad Nacional de San Agustin, Arequipa, Peru. Through the William J. Harrington Latin American Training Program he participated as a visiting faculty member at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center where he also trained in Internal Medicine. Dr. Rivas completed cardiovascular fellowship at Maine Medical Center. He specializes in echocardiography (American Society of Echocardiography Board Certified), nuclear cardiac stress testing (American Society of Nuclear Cardiology Board Certified), cardiac catheterization and pacemaker therapy.

Jeffrey A. Rosenblatt, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Rosenblatt graduated from the University of Maine at Orono and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at the Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and subsequently completed a fellowship in cardiology at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Rosenblatt is a Clinical Faculty Member of the University of Vermont College of Medicine, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and University of Southern Maine. Dr. Rosenblatt is the Director of Nuclear Cardiology and Vascular Laboratory at MCA and the Director of Cardiology at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Dr. Rosenblatt subspecializes in nuclear cardiology with interests in all forms of non-invasive imaging.

Henry W. Sesselberg, M.D.

A native of Connecticut, Dr. Sesselberg graduated from St. Lawrence University and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He served as resident in internal medicine, chief resident, fellow in cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology all at the University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. Dr. Sesselberg subspecializes in cardiac electrophysiology, with an interest in catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, hereditary arrhythmias and internal defibrillator placement.

Karl C. Sze, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Sze was born in New York City and graduated from Cornell University and Cornell University Medical College, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He trained at New York Hospital in New York City and at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Sze trained in cardiology at Rochester, New York's Strong Memorial Hospital. He has served as chief of cardiology at Mercy Hospital in Portland, and was the former director of the echocardiography laboratory at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Sze subspecializes in echocardiography.

Lisa R. Thomas, M.D., F.A.C.C.

A Vermont native, Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received her M.D. degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Thomas was a resident and chief resident in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, where she also completed a fellowship in cardiology. Dr. Thomas is board-certified in internal medicine and in cardiovascular disease. She has taught as a clinical fellow and instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Thomas subspecializes in clinical cardiology, including cardiovascular issues in women, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.

Joseph N. Wight, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Wight, a native of Massachusetts, is a graduate of Wesleyan University and received his M.D. degree from Albany Medical College in 1990. He trained in internal medicine at New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Wight completed fellowship training in cardiology at New England Medical Center, with specialized training in nuclear cardiology and echocardiography, including stress echo and transesophageal echo. He is a Diplomat of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Wight has special interest in the management of patients with Congestive Heart Failure and athletes with heart disease.

Lynette J. Fahnestock, D.O.


A native of Lewiston, Maine, Dr. Fahnestock earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Goshen College in Goshen, IN.  She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed a Cardiology Fellowship at Maine Medical Center.  Dr. Fahnestock's interests include echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and the treatment of cardiovascular disease in women.

James P. Parker, M.D.


Dr. Parker is a native of Connecticut. He graduated from University of Vermont College of Arts and Sciences and received his M.D. degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Dr. Parker completed his residency in internal medicine at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. His Cardiology Fellowship was also done at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Parker specializes in diagnostic cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, vascular medicine, and nuclear cardiology.

Roy J. Ulin, M.D., F.A.C.C.


Raised in Virginia and New Jersey, Dr. Ulin graduated from New York Medical College in 1987. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University Hospital/ Westchester County Medical Center. Dr. Ulin was a fellow in cardiology at New York Hospital/Cornell University Medical Center. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and is the Chief of Medicine at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Dr. Ulin subspecializes in echocardiography, cardiac catheterization and permanent pacemaker implantation.

Louis C. Coyle, D.O., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Coyle was born in Pennsylvania and graduated from Lehigh University with a Masters Degree in Organic Chemistry. He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served as a physician in the United States Army from 1991 until 2004. He trained in Cardiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Most recently he served as Assistant Chief of Cardiology at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany. He has co-authored numerous scientific articles on and has a special interest in arterial biology and preventive Cardiology.


Ralph C Hamill, M.D.

Dr. Hamill received his M.D. from Northwestern University in 1980, and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine in 1985. He is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine with additional certification in Cardiovascular Disease. His specialty is cardiology, with special interest in the primary presentation of heart disease through lifestyle improvements.
